Shari Rethman

Shari Rethman is a Professor of Interior Design at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH.  She was Dean of Liberal Arts, Communication, and Social Sciences from 2014 to 2018, and Chairperson of the Design Department from 2001 through 2013. Before joining Sinclair in 1998, she served as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati and as a part-time instructor at the University of Dayton. Professor Rethman oversees Sinclair’s Interior Design program, including teaching courses in Residential Design, Non-Residential Design, Sustainable Design, Materials and Textiles, Color Theory, the History of Interior Design, and Portfolio.  Her service to Sinclair has included terms on the Faculty Senate, Department Chair’s Council, and as a representative to the Ohio Faculty Senate.

As an interior design professional, Professor Rethman designed healthcare, corporate and institutional interiors while working with the design firms of John Poe Architects, Reed Doran Associates, and Lorenz Williams.  When Eisenman Architects received a Progressive Architecture award for the addition to the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning at the University of Cincinnati in 1991, she was recognized as a member of the CAD team at Lorenz Williams, the local partner for the project.  While at Reed Doran Associates, with Jeff Wray Architects, she contributed to the renovation of the historic Wurlitzer and Ludlow buildings for Reynolds and Reynolds which received an AIA Dayton, honorable mention in 1997.

Professor Rethman serves NASAD as a visiting evaluator.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Design in Interior Design, and a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. She also earned a Doctor in Education from Capella University. She passed the National Council of Interior Design Qualification Exam in 1989.
