Laura Vandenburgh is currently the Director of the School of Art and Design and Associate Dean of the College of Design at the University of Oregon (UO) and has taught drawing and painting in the UO Department of Art since 1998. She served as the Interim Dean of the College of Design from 2019 – 2021 and as Department Head from 2008 – 2014. In 2014, she received the UO Fund for Faculty Excellence Award, recognizing her accomplishments and contributions. Associate Dean Vandenburgh held previous academic appointments at Syracuse University and Hunter College, CUNY.
Her drawing-based work has been widely exhibited, including venues in Germany, Canada, Seattle, New York, and Portland, and has been supported by awards and residencies from Yaddo, the Ucross Foundation, Ford Family Foundation, and the Oregon Arts Commission.
Associate Dean Vandenburgh serves NASAD as a visiting evaluator.
She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Hunter College. Professor Vandenburgh also holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, both from the University of California at Davis.
