Matt Greenwell currently holds a University of Chattanooga (UC) Foundation Professorship in the Department of Art at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He served as the Head of the Department of Art in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences for eight years, beginning in 2004, returning to a full-time teaching appointment in Graphic Design in 2012. Professor Greenwell works in regular partnership with Chattanooga-based design studio Widgets and Stone, has received art and design awards at the local and national levels (ADDY and AIGA), and has had works featured in Print Magazine, as well as in books published by Allworth Press and Rockport Press (Effective Publication Management by Cathy Connor and 1000+ More Graphic Elements edited by Grant Design Collaborative, respectively). Professor Greenwell was a founding board member of the Chattanooga chapter of the AIGA, and remains active in the AIGA at the local level. While at UT Chattanooga, he has received college awards for distinguished service in advising and for excellence in teaching. He also received the distinguished UT National Alumni Award for Teaching in 2003.
Professor Greenwell received his Master of Fine Arts in Design from the University of Iowa in 1997, and Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Journalism from Western Kentucky University.
