NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS OF ART AND DESIGN
EIGHTIETH ANNUAL MEETING
October 16 – 19, 2024

 Minneapolis Marriott City Center

Meeting Registration and Hotel Reservations Cutoff: Friday, September 20

NASAD looks forward to welcoming representatives from accredited institutional members and their institutional colleagues as well as individuals from non-member institutions, including those whose institutions are considering or have filed applications for accreditation.

The NASAD Annual Meeting serves several important purposes, among them the occasion to conduct the business of the Association; the ability to learn further of the work and initiatives of NASAD; and, of particular import, the opportunity for administrators, in the company and support of peers, to share and receive information and to consider comprehensively and strategically issues that pertain to collegiate study in art and design.

Annual Meeting Information

Program Content

Sessions at the 80th Annual Meeting will address multiple areas of interest and importance to those administering art and design programs in higher education. Attendees will devote attention to topics such as:

  • Developing talking points which articulate the value and importance of art and design study.
  • Managing curricular change purposefully and proactively.
  • The impact AI is having/will have on the creation of authentic work.
  • The importance of involving faculty in the institutional peer review process.
  • Addressing the needs of underprepared students.
  • How data collected through the HEADS project can be used to support and advance planning scenarios.
  • Consideration of issues that often stand in the way of developing a healthy work/life balance.

In addition to the topics above, attendees will devote time to examining and discussing the following with regard to art and design curricular programs: foundations, art and design history, degree majors and concentrations, disciplines in combination, emerging disciplines, and graduate study.

Full descriptions of the sessions noted above may be found in the “Annual Meeting Sessions and Events” section of the website.

The Annual Meeting will also provide opportunities for representatives from historically Black institutions, faith-related institutions, community and two-year schools, small art and design units, and free-standing independent institutions to gather in small discussion groups to share issues of common interest and concern.

New in 2024, art and design executives new to administration, as well as experienced administrators, will have the opportunity to meet together with colleagues in open forum sessions to discuss pressing administrative challenges faced by art/design executives today, and explore how some of these challenges might be addressed.

In addition, attendees may reserve a twenty-minute block of time to meet one-on-one with an experienced NASAD administrator and/or a member of the NASAD staff. Registrants may indicate their interest in these individual meetings by checking the appropriate box on the registration form.

Informative sessions will delve into the nature and disposition of undergraduate liberal arts and professional degree programs; the preparation of clear and cogent submissions intended for review by the NASAD Commission on Accreditation; NASAD annual reporting requirements; and federal issues related to higher education. Training sessions will be offered for individuals preparing for comprehensive accreditation reviews, and for new and current visiting evaluators.

In addition to the Annual Meeting, NASAD will offer its Pre-Meeting Workshop for Individuals New to Art and Design Higher Education Administration on October 16–17, as well as a Pre-Meeting Workshop for Experienced Administrators on October 17. Individuals attending these pre-meeting workshops will have the opportunity to connect with colleagues, establish mentoring opportunities, and speak with members of the NASAD Board of Directors.

NASAD will also offer a pre-meeting workshop on October 16 specifically focused on the national standards found in the NASAD Handbook and their application. Individuals attending the Workshop for Visiting Evaluators, the Workshop for Experienced Evaluators, and/or the Briefing for Evaluators, all scheduled on October 17, are asked to attend.

Attendees will also gather to enjoy fellowship and renew connections during scheduled meals and social functions. In addition, attendees may wish to take advantage of the many places of interest, including museums and arts venues, dining, and outdoor activities Minneapolis offers.
