JEFFREY HANSON is Chair of the Department of Filmmaking, Art, and Design at Southern Utah University, a position he has held since 2014. He manages a department of more than 350 students, 18 full-time faculty, and 20 adjunct instructors. During his tenure, he has led curricular and facility expansions including the establishment of a Filmmaking program in 2022 and the completion of new studios in 2023 for Filmmaking, Photography, Painting, Drawing, Illustration, Graphic Design, and UX/UI Design. In addition to his administrative duties, he teaches courses in Typography, Motion Graphics, and Professional Practices, bringing his design expertise into the classroom while preparing students for professional careers.
Professor Hanson began his career in professional practice as a Graphic Designer for Noot Group, a branding agency in Boise, Idaho serving clients in the Northwest region, before moving into higher education teaching and leadership.
Professor Hanson earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Indiana University Bloomington and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Utah State University.
