Public Notice: Comprehensive Review of Standards Pertaining to Institutions for which NASAD is the Designated Institutional Accreditor and Proprietary Institutions

August 26, 2019

In August 2015, NASAD began a multi-year review of its standards and guidelines. The first phase of the review focused on the standards of graduate studies in art and design. The second phase focused on the standards for undergraduate studies in art and design. The third phase focused on non-degree-granting studies in art and design. The fourth phase focused on the standards pertaining to purposes and operations, two-year degree-granting studies, and applicable appendices. This phase will focus on specific operational standards for all institutions of higher education for which NASAD is the designated institutional accreditor and specific operational standards for proprietary institutions of higher education.

The comment period extends from August 26 to November 18, 2019. We invite all representatives of member institutions, constituencies, art and design professionals, deans, accreditors, students, interested parties, and the general public to engage in this review. The comments received in this comment period will influence any proposals for changes to the standards.

A hearing on the standards under review will be held on Thursday, October 17 from 4:45 – 5:45 p.m. at the NASAD 2019 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This current review will not result in a projected vote in November of 2019.
