Creating Local Responses to Economic Conditions:
Resource Briefing Letters

Updated April 21, 2009

NASAD is in the process of distributing a series of briefing letters which highlight resources that may be helpful in dealing with current economic conditions. Topics and resources presented in the letters include:

Explaining what arts faculties and executives do

Describing the resources needed to support specific undergraduate programs

Competency Index by Discipline and Specialization-
Undergraduate Degrees - Art and Design

Evaluating the long-term viability of departments or programs based on various change factors, change mechanisms, and internal and external influences

NASAD Optional Supplemental Questions for Self-Study

Do not let “Self-Study” in the title dissuade you. These resources are appropriate far beyond accreditation. The main applicable resources in this context within this document are:

Question Set 4 (Pages 5-7), Strategic Evaluation and Planning
Question Set 5 (Page 8), Twelve Point Outline for Action Planning

Working with numbers and evaluations

Statistical resources which may be useful for local decision making
        • HEADS Data Project--Overview
        • HEADS Data Summaries--Aggregate data from all institutions that participate in the HEADS Data Survey. The data are grouped by size and type of institution to help provide a more accurate picture of the field at large.
        • HEADS Special Reports--Allow institutions to focus reports on data from a set of specific peer institutions. These reports are more focused than the Data Summaries, but the data remain combined for the purpose of maintaining confidentiality.
